Patrick Makuakāne (B.A., ’89) is director of the San Francisco dance company and cultural organization Nā Lei Hulu I Ka Wēkiu, which features a traditional dance company that also blends classical hula with stylized movements and contemporary music with a theatrical flair. Performances tackle powerful topics such as colonialism. Genny Lim (B.A, ’77; M.A., ’88) is an award-winning playwright, poet, performer, educator and community leader. The San Francisco native is the city’s 2024 poet laureate and was a former SF JAZZ poet laureate.
